The Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe will be rocking this weekend, with two great tribute bands re-creating the music of the Grateful Dead and Steely Dan.
Friday night will feature Dead On Live, which will pay homage to the Grateful Dead’s historic acoustic shows at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. If you’re familiar with the Dead, you know that its album “Reckoning” was recorded live at Radio City in the ’80s.
Dead On Live is bringing that back to life with hits such as Cassidy, Birdsong and Ripple. And like the original shows, they’ll follow up with an electric set, playing hits including Jack Straw, Ramble on Rose and more.
If you’re a “Dead Head,” this is one show you won’t want to miss.
Tickets are $26 with an 8 p.m. show time.
Saturday night will feature Ney Nineteen, a well-known tribute to the fusion jazz icon of Steely Dan.
An 11-piece band which has its roots in New England, these musicians are spot-on when it comes to bringing out the sound of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. Sadly, among the famous musicians who left this world in 2017, Becker was one of them. So you can surely believe that this band is truly keeping the band’s sound alive and well.
It brings an enormous amount of energy to the stage and plays all of the hits, such as Do it Again, Your Gold Teeth II, Dirty Work and so much more.
And remember, Steely Dan wasn’t just one man.
Tickets are $29 with an 8 p.m. show time.
It might still be winter, but if you need any more reason to get out of the house this weekend, this is the place you want to be.
