Seattle-based Amazon has unveiled its short list for the site of its second headquarters, and the Lehigh Valley, which submitted a proposal to bring what is being commonly called HQ2 to this region, is not among the finalists.

However, just to the south of the Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia did make the cut, as did Newark, N.J., which is just over an hour east of the region.

The company said it received 238 proposals from cities and regions around North America.

Today it released a list of 20 metropolitan areas it is considering.

Here is the list in alphabetical order:

- Atlanta.

- Austin, Texas.

- Boston.

- Chicago.

- Columbus, Ohio.

- Dallas.

- Denver.

- Indianapolis.

- Los Angeles.

- Miami.

- Montgomery County, Md.

- Nashville, Tenn.

- Newark, N.J.

- New York City.

- Northern Virginia.

- Philadelphia.

- Pittsburgh.

- Raleigh, N.C.

- Toronto.

- Washington, D.C.

“Thank you to all 238 communities that submitted proposals. Getting from 238 to 20 was very tough – all the proposals showed tremendous enthusiasm and creativity,” said Holly Sullivan, Amazon Public Policy, in a press release. “Through this process we learned about many new communities across North America that we will consider as locations for future infrastructure investment and job creation.”

Amazon said in the coming months it will work with each of the locations to dive deeper into their proposals, request additional information and evaluate the feasibility of a future partnership that can accommodate the company’s hiring plans as well as benefit its employees and the local community.

Amazon expects to make a decision this year.
