Hearst Corp.’s purchase of Emmaus-based Rodale Inc. is official.
A Hearst spokeswoman confirmed that the sale was complete on Tuesday. She declined to provide additional details.
The company announced its intent to buy the book and magazine business of Rodale in October for what The Wall Street Journal estimated at the time to be around $225 million.
Rodale is a publisher of lifestyle and fitness publications, including Men’s Health, Women’s Health, Bicycling, Runner’s World and Prevention magazines.
About 700 people work for Rodale in offices internationally, with about 450 at its South 10th Street headquarters in Emmaus.
Paul Luthringer, a spokesman for Hearst, previously told Lehigh Valley Business that the company plans to retain a presence in Emmaus. He said Rodale’s multiplatform content business will be managed by Hearst Magazines, a unit of Hearst with more than 300 editions and websites around the world, including 20 titles in the U.S.
No further information was given on what is next, now that the purchase of the family owned company is complete.
