Construction is set to begin on Hamilton Animal Care of the Lehigh Valley in South Whitehall Township.

The new veterinary practice at 4570 Tilghman St. will be the second location for Hamilton Animal Care in Lower Macungie Township, which will remain open, according to Dr. Lisa Scibetta, who co-owns the practice.

North Star Construction Management Inc. of Allentown has cleared the land at the busy intersection of Tilghman Street and Cetronia Road.

Hamilton Animal Care of the Lehigh Valley is expected to open in summer 2018.

Established in 1997, the growing veterinary clinic will be moving into a rapidly expanding area where 450 new apartments are being built nearby at Spring View, a mixed-use complex on Cetronia Road.

“It’s a great location. We’re very excited,” said Kasee Ferris, marketing coordinator for Hamilton Animal Care.

The new, two-story building will be about 9,000-square-feet, with the hospital on the first floor and offices on the second.

The practice has eight veterinarians who will work at both clinics, Ferris said.

“Both locations will share a phone system and all the patient records to allow pet owners to choose which location is more convenient for their schedule that day,” Scibetta said.

Pet lodging will be available only at the Lower Macungie office at 6110 Hamilton Blvd., she said.

The property is next to P.J. Whelihan’s, which wanted to raze its restaurant and bar housed in a 19th century building, and build a restaurant that was twice as large on the parcel.
