There’s a new doughnut shop in town and this one is giving people something to quack about.

The Lehigh Valley’s first Duck Donuts opened Friday in the Tilghman Square Shopping Center in South Whitehall Township.

Founded in Duck, N.C., the rapidly growing franchise makes hot, made-to-order donuts.

The new franchise is run by Rosanna and Jason Sowers, who discovered Duck Donuts while vacationing in Williamsburg, Va.

“We had been looking to start a business,” Rosanna Sowers said. “When we went in it was packed and we thought, ‘These Duck Donuts must be really good.’”

When they returned a few more times during their vacation, the shop was busy every time.

Sowers said they liked the doughnuts, the atmosphere and the franchise’s business plan and immediately began looking at opening their own shop.

Despite some significant snow during the grand opening, which Sowers said she was sure would drive customers away, they did a brisk business on Friday. Customers continued to stream in over the weekend.

“We’re very ecstatic over the community’s response,” she said.

Duck Donuts is open Monday 6:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Tuesdays through Sundays 6:30 a.m. – 7 p.m.
