New liquor store slated for Jim Thorpe

By ,

By spring, Jim Thorpe should have a new place to shop for wine and spirits near the borough’s supermarket.

Todd Mason, president of Mason Realty Co. of Jim Thorpe, said the borough’s Fine Wine & Good Spirits store at 1215 North St. will move to a 5,000-square-foot-building next to Jim Thorpe Market, which is at 1 River Road.

Mason Realty is the developer and construction firm for the project. Howard Kulp Architects of Allentown is the architect.

The liquor store will occupy about 3,000 square feet of space in the two-unit building, Mason said. The state-owned store will rent the space from Mason, the building owner.

“It will be a very modern store,” he said. “We hope to have the store open by the spring of 2018. Plans are in place; we are just in the permitting phase.”

The estimated construction cost has not been determined, though land development and site work have begun, Mason said.

He is seeking a tenant for the remaining space, with the liquor store as the anchor.

“We are looking for a complementary business, some kind of retail,” Mason said. “We are still trying to develop that space. It’s a busy location in town. It’s our grocery shopping location.”
