McGregor won't kick any butt – but he'll get a lot richer

What would possess Conor McGregor to fight undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.?

The answer is $65 million to $85 million – the expected payout to the mixed martial arts dynamo from Ireland for stepping into the ring with Mayweather on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Otherwise, there would be no sane reason for McGregor to go anywhere near Mayweather. For sure, McGregor would have a good chance of winning if he were allowed to kick and choke and do whatever other caveman tactics that the UFC allows.

But the two will be following the rules of boxing, and Mayweather has never lost a professional boxing bout.

Yes, the 29-year-old McGregor, who boxed briefly years ago, has a very slim chance of catching the 40-year-old Mayweather with a haymaker and knocking him out. But Mayweather is too slick, too polished, too fast and too good to be caught.

McGregor is a tough one and he will be aggressive. But Mayweather’s counterpunches will lead to a mid-round technical knockout victory.

By the way: Mayweather could take home $220 million to $240 million for the fight. Almost as much as the Massachusetts woman who hit the Powerball jackpot.

-- Just wondering at what age does a parent’s responsibility end in terms of warning his child about not looking directly into the sun during an eclipse. Have to figure that by age 28, the child has that figured out.
