The Da Vinci Science Center of Allentown will update Northampton County residents on plans to build a large aquarium as part of its Da Vinci Science City project in downtown Easton.

The center and the city will hold a series of town meetings as it enters the master planning phase of the project. It will give members of the public a chance to learn more about, ask questions, and offer feedback on the project.

The plan is to build a $130 million aquarium and learning center. The attraction calls for building a complex focused on education that includes a 500,000-gallon aquarium filled with sharks and other exotic sea animals, a major exhibit on the Delaware and Lehigh River watersheds, a massive 3-D theater and a science center.

Lin Erickson, executive director and CEO of the center, said that feedback from the public is critical to the next phase of the project.

“This Science City is a resource for the community, and we want to craft the best possible 21st century science center that we can,” she said.

That means she’d like to hear ideas and suggestions from area educators, residents and business professional as the project’s impact on education, tourism and the local economy will all be discussed.

There will be a total of four public meetings:

  • Wed., Aug. 23, 7 -8:30 p.m. at Northeast Middle School -- 1170 Fernwood St, Bethlehem
  • Thurs., Aug 24, 2017; 7-8:30 p.m. at George Wolf Elementary School -- 300 Allen St, Bath
  • Tues., Aug. 29, 7-8:30 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church -- 404 Broadway, Bangor
  • Thurs., Aug. 31, 7-8:30 p.m. at Paxinosa Elementary School -- 1221 Northampton St, Easton.

The project would be at the corner of South Third Street and Larry Holmes Drive. For more information go to the website davincisciencecityeaston.org.
