Allentown has a new place for Japanese style seafood, sushi and other Asian dishes – with a little bit of Cajun flare.
Mr. Crab Seafood House has opened in the Village West Shopping Center at 3174 W. Tilghman St., Allentown.
The 2,471-square-foot restaurant opened Monday after owner Billy Chen remodeled the space formerly occupied by Elevation Burger next to Patient First.
The menu contains sushi, noodle and Thai dishes and some main dishes that feature Cajun sauces and seasonings.
While it might seem unusual for a restaurant to have an Asian-Cajun fusion theme, Chen said it’s been done before successfully.
Chen said he owned an Asian buffet restaurant in Orange County, Calif. There, he said, there were Asian-Cajun restaurants that were doing quite well.
He said he saw a lack of such restaurants when he moved to the Lehigh Valley over a year ago.
Why the name Mr. Crab?
“We did a survey and found people like crab and they like seafood,” Chen said.
The menu also has dishes containing beef and chicken.
The restaurant does not have a liquor license or bring-your-own permit. It serves soda, juices and other beverages. It is open for lunch and dinner.
