The road to success is paved with authenticity.

Find your inner voice and strength and don’t be afraid to use those quirks and natural abilities to stand apart from the pack.

That’s the plain yet empowering message Fredrik Eklung told a crowd of about 550 at the Greater Lehigh Valley Realtors’ fifth annual Signature Event & Home Expo on Thursday evening in the Fowler Blast Furnace Room of SteelStacks at ArtsQuest, Bethlehem.

“Be yourself,” said Eklund, notable by his friendly, freestyling presence, impromptu dancing and signature kick and squawk.

The Bravo reality show star of “Million Dollar Listing New York” also is a real estate broker specializing in new and redevelopment and a best-selling author. The Swede from the suburbs of Stockholm has made New York his home and business base for more than a decade.

Eklund was keynote speaker at an event aimed at bringing the public and real estate professionals together.

“We want [people] to know we are here to build community,” not just sell properties, said Justin Porembo, Greater Lehigh Valley Realtors CEO.

Eklund said developing a voice, a recognizable brand and giving himself permission to be himself were essential to his success.

“I came to New York without any money and without a plan,” Eklund said. He got his real estate license after failing at various jobs such as bartending and being encouraged by a friend.

“You’ve got a big personality and are good with numbers; you should try real estate,” was his friend’s advice, Eklund said.

Eklund is responsible for about $200 million in real estate sales to elite buyers in New York, including high-profile celebrities, according to his website.

Eklund also is promoting his newest book, “The Sell: The Secrets of Selling Anything to Anyone.”
