Air Products and Chemicals Inc. of Trexlertown said it formed East Coast Nitrogen, a joint venture with Linde North America, and will build a $60 million world-scale air separation unit and industrial gas liquefier in Glenmont in upstate New York.
The larger plant, designed to handle 1,100 tons per day, is expected to increase Air Products’ industrial gases capacity for Northeast customers, the company said in a news release.
Combined, Air Products and Linde North America, headquartered in Murray Hill, N.J., will invest $60 million in the facility, which will produce liquid nitrogen, liquid oxygen and liquid argon.
Air Products will build and operate the plant, with commercial status targeted for December 2018, the company said.
Art George, spokesman for Air Products, could not immediately be reached for comment.
The plant will use the company’s latest technology, and its capabilities will strengthen Air Products’ presence in the Albany, N.Y., area, a company official said in a statement
The plant will go up at the site of an existing Air Products plant in Glenmont, with industrial gas products to be distributed by Air Products and Linde independently to the market to serve the New York and New England regions. Market segments include chemicals, food, electronics, glass, health and medical.
