Scranton-based Peoples Security Bank and Trust plans to open a third branch in the Lehigh Valley in a former Susquehanna Bank in Allentown.
The Peoples Security branch at 3920 W. Tilghman St. near Wegmans is undergoing renovations and is expected to open in late summer, a spokesman said.
The building was vacated after BB&T bought Susquehanna Bank and it briefly became a National Penn Bank branch in 2016.
Peoples Security bought the building for an undisclosed amount.
On Monday, officials from Peoples Security and the community held a belated celebration for the April 17 opening of its retail branch and operations center at 2151 Emrick Blvd., Bethlehem Township, the bank’s second location in the Lehigh Valley.
Peoples Security bought the 25,000 square-foot former office building for $3.5 million.
The bank also has a branch on Airport Road in Bethlehem.
Peoples Security’s core footprint is in Lackawanna, Wyoming and Susquehanna counties and has 26 branches, including locations in East Stroudsburg and Mount Pocono in Monroe County.
