Mr. Crab Seafood Restaurant, which specializes in Asian and Cajun style seafood, will open in the Village West shopping center in South Whitehall Township near the west Allentown border, according to owner Billy Chen.

Chen said he expects to open the restaurant before the end of May.

The 2,471-foot restaurant is being remodeled in the space formerly occupied by Elevation Burger, 3174 Tilghman St., next to Patient First.

The restaurant will have a seating capacity of 80 and will be open daily for lunch and dinner. Prices will be moderate, ranging from about $4 to $16, he said.

Chen said he owned an Asian buffet restaurant in Orange County, Calif., before he moved about a year ago to the Lehigh Valley, where he has family.

“I moved here to open a restaurant,” he said.

“The population of the area is pretty large and there are not many Louisiana Cajun seafood restaurants here,” Chen said.

Chen said he has hired a chef. Chen also owns Asian buffet restaurants in Berwick, Columbia County, and Kingston, Luzerne County.

He said he signed a five-year lease with Brixmor Property Group, the shopping center owner and leasing agent.
