Businesses thank vets with discounts and giveaways

In addition to the parades and memorials being held for Veterans Day, businesses around the Greater Lehigh Valley and the nation are thanking the country's veterans on Friday and beyond with a number of different promotions to say “thanks” for serving the nation.

Rodizio Grill, on Lehigh Street in Allentown, said “thanks” a day early. On Nov. 10, it’s offering a full rodizio dinner to any veteran with identification and with the purchase of another rodizio dinner.

Mission BBQ, which has locations in Wyomissing and Whitehall Township, has a year-round theme of saluting those in military service. On Veterans Day, it’s offering free sandwiches and cake for active duty military members and veterans.

Blue Heron Book Works of Allentown is offering a free copy of “Off Track” by Vietnam veteran Jim McGarrah to any local vet who requests one.

The Standard in Easton is holding a Marine Corps Birthday / Veterans Day Party on Nov. 10.

All veterans get 15 percent off their bill, and there will be a contest for the youngest and oldest Marine in attendance.

The P.J.W. Restaurant Group will be offering a free 10-piece wing order to veterans on Veterans Day at all of its P.J. Wheilihan’s restaurants, including those in Reading, Lehighton, Allentown, South Whitehall and Hanover Township, Northampton County. Also, the restaurant group will be delivering wings to as many as 1,000 active Army personnel with a “wing truck” that it will have stationed at Fort Dix, N.J.

Turkey Hill stores in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana are honoring America’s heroes by welcoming active, inactive and retired military personnel to stop by for a free 16-ounce coffee or cappuccino on Nov. 11. Also, at locations where car washes are available, they can receive a free ultimate wash service. Customers can find car wash locations by visiting turkeyhillstores.com.

Buffalo Wild Wings, which has locations in Whitehall and Lower Nazareth Township, is offering a free small order of wings (10-12 traditional or boneless wings) and a side of fries to veterans, or active duty military personnel, on Nov. 11.

Carrabba’s Italian Grill, which has locations in South Whitehall Township and Palmer Township, is offering free appetizers to veterans through Nov. 13.

Applebee’s, which has a number of locations in the Greater Lehigh Valley, is offering a free meal from a special Veterans Day menu. A similar deal is available at Olive Garden and Texas Roadhouse restaurants.

On The Border is offering a free two or three choose-your-own combo.

Chipotle is offering a buy-one get-one deal from 3 p.m. to close on Nov. 11.

Outback is giving veterans a free bloomin’ onion, nonalcoholic beverage and 15 percent discount from Nov. 12 through Dec. 31.

Red Lobster will offer a free appetizer or dessert with a valid military ID on November 10th and 11th.

Menchie’s, which has locations in Allentown and Bethlehem Township, is offering free frozen yogurt to veterans (up to six ounces.)

Great Clips is offering free haircuts with a little help from customers. Customers can visit any U.S. Great Clips salon on Nov. 11 and, with the purchase of a service, receive a free haircut card to give to a veteran. Veterans can redeem the free cuts through Dec. 31.

Some places offer discounts to military personnel year-round.

Home Depot offers a 10 percent military discount.

Dell also offers a 10 percent military discount, but from now through Nov. 15, it’s upping it to 15 percent.

Most of the offers require ID to prove military of veteran status.

Of course, conditions can always apply and their might be locations not participating, so it doesn’t hurt to double check.

Oh, and also from the rest of us: thank you.
