Soccer is a rapidly growing sport in America, and in the Lehigh Valley, it's gaining interest from all walks of life.

This year, Bethlehem Steel FC, a new professional soccer team, made its debut at Goodman Stadium at Lehigh University, and it has been quickly making a significant impact in the region.

Now, in partnership with Discover Lehigh Valley and ArtsQuest, Steel FC will host a youth soccer clinic at no cost to children ages 5-12. The clinic is 6:15-7:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, during the Lehigh Valley SoccerFest at SteelStacks in Bethlehem.

The first 200 children to register will participate in a hands-on clinic led by Steel FC staff and players.

During the clinic, children will have the opportunity to work with Steel FC personnel in a fun, laid-back atmosphere as they discover the basics of soccer. Several stations will be offered during the 60-minute clinic to emphasize soccer techniques and skills. In addition, families can enjoy inflatable games and enter to win tickets to Steel FC games.

“We are excited to be part of another successful Lehigh Valley SoccerFest this summer at SteelStacks,” Bethlehem Steel FC managing director Rich Searls said in a news release.

The Lehigh Valley SoccerFest, a free festival that has attracted single-game crowds of up to 10,000 fans to the SteelStacks campus in previous years to watch international soccer games on big-screen television.

This time, SoccerFest will feature all three U.S. Men’s National Team opening round matches in the “Copa America Centenario.” The games are at 9:30 p.m. June 3 vs. Colombia, at 8 p.m. June 7 vs. Costa Rica and at 7 p.m. June 11 vs. Paraguay.

All matches will be featured on a jumbo light emitting diode screen on SteelStacks’ Air Products Town Square.

In addition, the festival will include family fun and programming such as soccer tennis, inflatables and merchandise, along with live music and food.

Children can be signed up for the clinic at www.bethlehemsteelfc.com/2016soccerfest.

Bethlehem Steel FC joined the United Soccer League in October 2015 and is the official USL affiliate of the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer.
