Musikfest announced its second headliner for the 2016 festival, and it's a doozy.
Boston, the dynamic rock group that’s been iconic in the music scene for decades, will rock the festival’s Sands Steel Stage at PNC Plaza on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 8:30 p.m.
Launched by studio technician, producer and musician Tom Scholz, Boston took the world by storm with its self-titled 1976 multiplatinum-selling debut album, which sold more than 17 million copies worldwide and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and remained on the charts for 132 weeks. The band is best known for its timeless hits such as “More Than a Feeling,” “Foreplay/Long Time,” “Peace of Mind” and “Smokin’,” which are still in heavy rotation today.
Following the unprecedented success of its debut release, the band continued to top the charts with its 1978 sophomore release of “Don’t Look Back in Anger.” While it only sold about half as well as the debut album, it eventually went on to sell more than seven million copies and the album’s title track became a Top 5 hit. Additionally, two other singles, “A Man I’ll Never Be” and “Feelin’ Satisfied,” went Top 40 and Top 50, respectively.
Despite legal troubles and other difficulties in the years to follow its sophomore release, the band bounced back with another chart topper in 1986 with the release of “Third Stage,” which hit No. 1 on the charts and sold more than 31 million copies. The album’s top single, “Amanda,” attributed to the album’s triumph.
This summer, Boston is celebrating its 40th anniversary with its Four Decades North American Tour, in which fans are expected to hear all of the classic songs that they’ve grown to love.
Musikfest is the nation’s largest free music festival, spanning 10 days and attracting more than one million visitors to Bethlehem’s north and south sides.
