Four companies and one executive were crowned winners Tuesday night at the third annual Greater Lehigh Valley Business of the Year awards dinner in Bethlehem.

John T. Yurconic, president of the John Yurconic Agency of Allentown, was named executive of the year before an audience of nearly 400 professionals at ArtsQuest at SteelStacks.

Three companies earned business of the year honors in their respective categories:

• American Millwork & Cabinetry of Emmaus in the 1-50 employee category.

• Norris McLaughlin & Marcus PA of South Whitehall Township for 51-100 employees.

• Follett Corp. of Easton for more than 100 employees.

GreenStar Solutions of Bethlehem was named emerging business of the year.

“The Greater Lehigh Valley is fortunate that so many success-minded entrepreneurs and leaders have opted to start, locate and grow their businesses here,” said David Schankweiler, CEO of Journal Multimedia, parent company of Lehigh Valley Business, which organized the event.

“Each of our companies here tonight is a shining example of what business should be all about …” Schankweiler told the audience. “Solid determination, strong ethics, visionary leadership and deep commitment to the things that really matter: their families, customers, employees and one’s community.”

Also at the ceremony, three men were inducted into the Lehigh Valley Business Hall of Fame for a lifetime of achievement: Jack Wilson, Jack Gulati and Jeffrey Parks.

Wilson, 89, noted the importance of a skilled group of employees in the success of ABEC Inc. of Bethlehem, a biopharmaceutical company he founded in 1974.

“I think they are the real heart of the company,” Wilson told the audience.

Gulati owns the Reading Royals professional ice hockey team and is a longtime entrepreneur in Berks County. Parks is president and chief quest officer of Bethlehem’s ArtsQuest and founder of MusikFest, which annually brings about 1 million people to the city.

An independent judging panel, not affiliated with Lehigh Valley Business, selected this year’s honorees.
