The Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber Foundation has announced the recipients of this year’s Foundation Funding.

The foundation is distributing $30,000 among the 27 recipients chosen from 40 applicants.

Lorie Reinert, executive director of the foundation, said this is the seventh year for the grants, which support projects on main streets and traditional surrounding neighborhoods in the Greater Lehigh Valley.

Examples of winning projects included bicycles for community police in Allentown, murals on the South Side of Bethlehem adjacent to a proposed greenway, Pen Argyl’s historic district and Sitgreaves Street in Easton.

Other projects supported this year are billboards, movies in the park, several festivals in Phillipsburg, Easton, Macungie and Walnutport, an urban farm gazebo in Easton and a beautification project in Lansford.

Reinert said one of the benefits of how the foundation distributes the grants is that they are reimbursements, so communities have to raise upfront money through donations or fundraisers.

“We’re not just writing checks,” she said. “This creates a genuine pride of ownership, and we have a really good track record with these projects.”

Since the foundation began the grants, it has provided $298,000 in funding for more than 160 projects in at least 25 Lehigh Valley communities.
