A Lehigh County manufacturer is playing a role in the World Cup by creating a product for a stadium that hosted six matches of the global soccer tournament in Brazil. Germany and Argentina play in the final on Sunday.
Palram Americas of Weisenberg Township created SUNTUF PRO, a product for the Plácido Castelo stadium, known as Castelão, in Fortaleza, Brazil, according to a news release. Owned by the Brazilian government and inaugurated in 1973, the stadium was revamped for the 2014 World Cup.
Part of this renovation included more than 75,000 square feet of transparent SUNTUF corrugated polycarbonate sheets to allow natural daylight on the field.
The manufacturer produced the sheets to length and the covering was installed, providing a watertight solution.
The company said it was the first Brazilian stadium to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification.
Palram is a manufacturer of polycarbonate and PVC product lines. SUNTUF PRO is marketed as SUNSKY in North America.
