For the second time this year, the Allentown-based Butz companies have made a Top Companies list from Engineering News Record.

ENR has just named Butz, which consists of Alvin H. Butz Inc., Alexander Building Construction Co. and Shoemaker Construction Co., as no. 84 on its Top 100 Construction Management-at-Risk Firms for 2014.

It was the only Pennsylvania-based firm to make the list.

Earlier this year Butz was named no. 209 on ENR’s list of the Top 400 Contractors for 2014.

A construction manager-at-risk differs from a regular agency construction manager in that the managing firm holds all of the subcontractor contracts – assuming much of the risk on behalf of the owner of the development project.

“These rankings speak volumes about our reputation as one of the highest quality, professionally-staffed construction management firms not only in Pennsylvania, but nationally as well,” said Greg L. Butz, president and CEO of the Butz Family of Companies.

In 2013, the Butz Family of Companies oversaw a wide variety of CM-at-Risk construction projects, including the PPL Center, the Philadelphia Zoo parking garage, the Mount Nittany Medical Center perioperative services expansion, the Lancaster General Hospital Chester County medical office building, and the Geisinger Health System Gray’s Woods Surgery Center and parking deck phase II.

ENR uses construction revenue from the previous year as its primary grading criteria, making the Top 100 list.
