Vegan Treats in Bethlehem has been nationally recognized for its vegan products.
In honor of National Doughnut Day on Friday, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals named Vegan Treats first runner-up in its Top Six Vegan-Friendly Doughnut Shops.
“We're very fortunate to have a great reputation both here in the [Lehigh] Valley, as well as nationwide, an honor such as “Top Doughnuts” only helps to further boost our visibility and fan base,” said Danielle Konya, owner of the shop.
Technically, the bakery isn’t a doughnut shop, but, according to PETA, the bakery’s ever-expanding variety of doughnuts made without animal products qualified the Bethlehem baker for the list.
Konya said she plans to take advantage of the honor and Doughnut Day.
“We’re pulling out all the stops this weekend, cherry pie doughnuts, Boston cream, miniature doughnuts, blueberry lemon, coconut lime, tiramisu, cannoli doughnuts and much, much more,” she said.
Vegan Treats will receive a congratulatory letter and a framed certificate from PETA.
“Like so many other successful companies, Vegan Treats proves that meat-, dairy- and egg-free foods are the best way to go,” PETA Special Projects Manager Alicia Woempner said. “… Vegan Treats’ doughnuts are some of the most creative confections around.”
