A number of community banks in the Greater Lehigh Valley have been named to American Banker magazine's list of Top 200 Community Banks.

The banks were ranked by three-year return on investment. Only banks with less than $2 billion in assets were considered for the list.

With $358.6 million in assets, New Tripoli Bancorp of New Tripoli was the highest ranking community bank on the list at 38.

With $529.5 million in assets, American bank of Allentown was No. 39.

Next was QNB Corp. of Quakertown, with assets of $932.9 million, at No. 49.

Embassy Bancorp of Bethlehem, with $670.9 million in assets, was No. 59.

Mauch Chunk Financial of Jim Thorpe, with $314.9 million in assets, was No. 140.

Harleysville Savings Financial of Harleysville, with $809.3 million in assets, was No. 197.

The magazine, which is based in New York, examined the credentials of 851 community banks in the country for the report.

The top performers listed are doing significantly better as a group than the 851 as a whole, according to the magazine.

Pennsylvania had 38 community banks on the list, which made it the top-performing state for community banks in the nation.
