When businesses help the community, the rewards sometimes can prove much richer and deeper than any monetary profit.

Billy Kounoupis soon will reap those rewards.

If you are from Bethlehem or Allentown, then you might already know about Billy's Downtown Diner.

A breakfast and lunch eatery with a restaurant on East Broad Street in Bethlehem for 13 years, owner and chef Kounoupis recently opened a second location in downtown Allentown at Eighth and Hamilton streets.

And at the Allentown spot on Friday, April 4, Kounoupis' customers will be doing much more than eating.

After the doors close for regular business that day, Kounoupis is hosting a fundraising event that night for the Allentown School District Foundation by cooking up a three-course prix-fixe menu, a silent auction and dining with Allentown mayor Ed Pawlowski.

And ballroom dancing.

Yes, you heard right. Billy's Downtown Diner will turn into a ballroom for a night.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Allentown Middle School Ballroom Dance program, one of the many programs supported by the ASD Foundation.

"The fine arts are an integral part of our culture, and I believe that they should be supported by the community," Kounoupis said. "I am excited to open my doors to the community for the first time in over 13 years to host a unique dinner experience to support funding for the arts."

Kounoupis' ballroom menu includes stuffed mushrooms Florentine, a harvest salad, a chicken or salmon entrée and Greek yogurt cheesecake.

Coffee, tea and soda are included, and the event is BYOB.

If purchased before Monday, March 31 tickets are $40 per person or $50 per person at the door. Diners may sit at the mayor's table for $100 a ticket.

"It's my hope that people will see the importance of art, music, food and dance in our schools and continue to benefit the arts programs through events like this," Kounoupis said.

The event is Friday, April 4, from 5-9 p.m. at Billy's Downtown Diner, 840 Hamilton St., Allentown.

For more information, to secure a table or to contribute to the event, contact Billy's Downtown Diner at its Allentown location at 610-432-5484 and ask for Sherri.
