As a new auto dealership goes up at the site of a former gentlemen’s club on Lehigh Street in Allentown, an established showroom under the same ownership soon will be home to a new line of Italian luxury sports cars.

Rob Bennett, dealer principal of Bennett Automotive Group, said the existing Bennett Infiniti dealership on West Tilghman Street in South Whitehall Township will become a Maserati dealership once the Bennett Infiniti of Allentown dealership is completed this summer. However, buyers in the market for the luxury autos might be able to snap them up a lot sooner.

"We hope to sell [Maserati] cars alongside Infiniti; hopefully we'll get our first shipment of cars within a week," Bennett said. "We're hoping it will coincide with the opening of the auto show; we have at least one to display."

The Greater Lehigh Valley Auto Show is March 20-23 on the Goodman Campus on Lehigh University in Bethlehem.

NorthStar Construction Management Inc. of Upper Macungie Township is doing a design/build for the Allentown facility. Once that is finished, NorthStar will renovate the West Tilghman Street site to transform it into a Maserati dealership, he added.

"When we finish the Infiniti store, we anticipate being open on Lehigh Street in July, at which time we will begin the retrofit on the existing building on Tilghman Street," Bennett said. "Prior to, we will separate the showrooms [to sell Maserati vehicles alongside the Infiniti brand.] It's going to be a gorgeous building, that's for sure."

The Ghibli, a sedan that retails for about $68,000, is an example of the high-end Maserati brands that Bennett will market in the new facility.
