Kost Tire & Auto has opened its first Lehigh Valley store on Lehigh Street in Allentown, just down from what is commonly referred to as the “Auto Mile.”

The store will face competition.

The shop is flanked by Jiffy Lube and Midas and is just a few blocks from STS Tire and Auto and Jack Williams Tire – and it is across the street from a privately operated auto service station.

Mike Conti said he doesn't find any of that daunting.

“The traffic and the industry in the area will allow us to show we're competitive,” he said.

Conti noted that Kost Tires was founded 75 years ago by the Kost family in Forest City in Susquehanna County in northeastern Pennsylvania.

“We've been around for a long time,” he said.

Aside from selling tires ranging from Goodyear to Michelin, the 53 Kost Tire shops the family operates serve as full-service and repair stations.

Kost Tire and Auto is at 3117 Lehigh St. For more information, call 484-664-2424.

A husband and wife team are opening a fitness club in Hellertown.

Nick and Eileen Barone are opening N-Tensity Fitness in the Creekside Marketplace in January.

Eileen Barone said this isn't the kind of fitness club where people just drop in and work out on equipment.

Instead, she said, the workouts are class-based with personal trainers to ensure that everyone is working out at their optimum heart rate to get the most calories burned.

Barone said everyone wears a wireless heart monitor that is connected to a screen.

“That way you can see your name on the screen and see how high your heart rate is going,” she said. The trainer, in turn, can let students know if they're working out too hard, or if they need to pick up the pace.

Barone said the classes involve a form of circuit training where everyone switches their routines between adaptive motion trainers, rowers and kettle bells, among other equipment.

“It's going to be a unique club,” she said.

N-Tensity Fitness is at 1872 Leithsville Road. For more information, go to www.ntensityfitness.com.

A grand opening was scheduled for Dec. 13 for State Farm Insurance and Nazareth Investment Services in Nazareth.

State Farm agent John Little is opening the State Farm office at 49 E. Center St. in the borough.

Little has been a State Farm agent for 22 years. He recently bought the building to house his insurance office and Nazareth Investment Services.

Joseph Engleby operates Nazareth Investment Services, an independent firm that has been in business for more than nine years.

A new fashion store has opened at the Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley in Center Valley.

The Republic of Couture is described as a concept that merges fashion, entertainment and interactivity. The Saucon Valley shop is one of a handful of new stores opening across the nation. The chain is headquartered in Florida.

“ROC offers a fun, energetic environment to allow customers to feel better on the inside and look better on the outside,” said store founder Gaston Garcia, who noted the store's choice, price and service.

The store carries women and men's clothing, shoes, bags and accessories from many designers in limited styles and sizes, according to a press release from the chain.

The Lehigh Valley has a new shop that aims to be the go-to place for batteries and light bulbs. Named, appropriately enough, Batteries Plus Bulbs, the franchise is one of 600 stores in 47 states.

The store sells products ranging from compact fluorescent light bulbs to laptop and car batteries.

Batteries Plus Bulbs plans a Dec. 18 grand opening at 3021 Lehigh St., Allentown.
