As the billboard on Route 22 East near Allentown states, “Construction happens here.”

Showcasing this industry growth and production is the Associated Builders and Contractors Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter, which presented 21 awards to commercial construction projects at its 23rd annual Merit Construction Awards of Excellence Banquet on Nov. 14 at Presidential Caterers in Norristown.

The association also named its members of the year in four categories.

ABC members entered 40 projects divided into 17 categories in the 2013 competition. The winners include many in the Greater Lehigh Valley, including:

Commercial Under $3 Million

Excellence: McSurdy Medical (Gilbertsville) C. Raymond Davis & Sons Inc. (Kimberton).

Industrial

Home City Ice Addition & Renovation (East Greenville), Hollenbach Construction Inc. (Boyertown).

Institutional, Health Care

ABC also named its 2013 members of the year, nominated by the membership, which included Klover Contracting Inc. of Quakertown, which earned Specialty Contractor of the Year.

Congrats to all the winners and here's hoping next year brings even more companies and projects from our region. It's good to show recognition for these innovative projects and the people who put them together.
