Associated Builders Contractors Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter will honor outstanding commercial, industrial and institutional construction projects, also known as merit construction, next month at its 23rd annual Merit Construction Awards of Excellence Banquet.
On Nov. 14, each of the 40 projects entered in this year's program will be recognized at a banquet at Presidential Caterers in Norristown. While celebrating the craftsmanship of the projects, the event also is an opportunity to network with construction industry leaders.
"The banquet really showcases what merit contractors can accomplish," said Jessica Pomraning, public relations manager of ABC Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter. "Merit contractors do such a wide array of projects, ranging from medical complexes to residential senior living facilities to churches, which really enhance local construction."
The ABC Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter is a trade organization that represents more than 14,000 merit construction employees who work for 425 member companies in Eastern Pennsylvania.
The judging process of the merit construction projects takes a few months, she said, with an independent panel of 40 judges consisting of architects, engineers and other industry professionals who visit each site.
Each construction company submitted its projects by July, and the judging concluded Sept. 10.
Some the 17 categories entered in the competition are commercial, heavy construction, industrial, institutional, pre-engineered metal, public, restoration/renovation and specialty construction.
A trophy is given to the winner of each category, and a special green building award is given to the project that promotes the most energy saving qualities.
An overall winning project will be named.
This year's finalists include Allan A. Myers, Brubacher Excavating Inc., Bulldog Construction Co., C. Raymond Davis & Sons Inc., Ehret Construction Co., Gorski Engineering Inc., Harkins Builders Inc., Hollenbach Construction Inc., Miller, Miller & McLachlan Construction Inc.
