Panera Bread will open its newest Lehigh Valley location next month and bring with it more than 40 jobs to the Quakertown area.

According to Theresa Rivello, regional marketing director for Panera Bread, the chain is building a 4,300-square-foot café with a drive-thru at 139 N. West End Blvd. in Quakertown near Route 309. The anticipated opening date is Nov. 11, and hiring will begin in two weeks, with training starting Nov. 4, Rivello said this morning.

"We have a substantial commitment to building in the community," Rivello said.

She said the chain did not want to disclose the construction cost.

The restaurant chain makes bread, sandwiches, salads, soups and other items each day.

Conboy and Mannion Contracting Inc. of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., is building the café. The site previously had a Sonic Drive-In that was demolished, according to Rivello.
