DEPG Stroud Associates II of Plymouth Meeting is breaking ground today on a Dick's Sporting Goods for the Bartonsville Shopping Center in Stroud Township, Monroe County.

The sporting goods retailer operates more than 500 stores. In the Greater Lehigh Valley, there are Dick's stores in Reading, Bethlehem, Easton and Whitehall.

The store – the first for the company in Monroe County – will be at Route 611 and Route 33 and will change the skyline along Interstate 80, said James DePetris, general partner of DEPG.

"When I landed in this area in 2001, there was nothing but two large truck stops at the intersection of Routes 33 and 611," he said. "We wanted to do exceptional development as our projects on the north and south side of Route 611 were the gateway into Stroud Township," he said.

Bartonsville Plaza is a 50,000-square-foot neighborhood center. DEPG also has developed and sold the ground for a new 110-room Hampton Inn & Suites hotel and a 40,000-square-foot medical office owned by Pocono Medical Health Systems.

Construction on Dick's Sporting Goods should be completed by mid-October, with the store opening in time for Black Friday.
