Alvernia University in Reading has named Scott Ballantyne as the new chair of its business department.

Ballantyne, an associate professor of business, will oversee the university's undergraduate and MBA programs.

Ballantyne said he has a goal of taking his work into the community and plans to work with local companies and organizations to offer leadership and training programs for their employees.

He said he also hopes to expand offerings at the school's Pottsville and Philadelphia centers.

Ballantyne is the co-author of "Planning in Reverse: A Viable Approach to Organizational Leadership," which he wrote with two other Alvernia business department faculty.

It is Ballantyne's second time as business chair, having held that role from 2003-06.

He holds a doctorate in education administration from Widener University and a master's in public administration from Kutztown University.
