How did your company become a leader in the industry?

I believe many things contribute to our success, beginning with our talented and creative team of professionals who believe in customer focus. We pride ourselves in remaining ahead of the curve in reaching our clients’ customers.

We embrace new technology and continuously seek new methods to deliver marketing messages through evolving media, including – but not limited to – online marketing, social media and dynamic digital communication.

What is your company’s biggest challenge and how do you attack it?

Our biggest challenge is also the most exciting one, and that is to stay on top of change and the speed of business, especially in our industry. This is no longer the advertising world of “Mad Men,” where there were only a few methods of communication available. Today there are hundreds of viable ways to reach highly targeted audiences instantaneously.

And with new media created seemingly every day, it is our responsibility to develop strategies using the most effective and efficient means of communication. To do that is a challenge, but also exciting and gratifying.

Why does your company call the Lehigh Valley home?

Our business started here nearly 24 years ago, and throughout that time we have gained tremendous appreciation for what the Lehigh Valley has to offer. From a business perspective, I can’t imagine a better place for opportunity, diversity and wealth of resources.

From small businesses to large, we have benefited by working for and with other Lehigh Valley-based companies; in fact, this has enabled us to expand our client list far beyond the Valley, to other states and countries.

However, we are proud and honored to call the Lehigh Valley home.

What do you look for in hiring employees? And what is your training strategy/approach?

We hire bright, enthusiastic, creative thinkers who have a passion for what they do. We foster an environment that encourages and supports professional and personal growth by providing opportunities to learn and advance knowledge and skills through education, research, conferences, webinars, etc. Learning about our clients’ businesses, as well as our own, is of the utmost importance.

How do you define success for your company?

We measure our success by the success of our clients. By helping them build their brands and grow their businesses, we grow, too.




How did your company become a leader in the industry?

Throughout our years in business, First Generation has delivered consistent quality and superior creative and garnered a reputation that has attracted many top-tier clients in the Lehigh Valley and beyond. Our standing in the advertising industry has also made us a magnet for the outstanding mission-oriented marketing professionals seeking employment in a fast-paced environment.

What is your company’s biggest challenge and how do you attack it?

Our biggest challenge is to not become complacent in an industry that changes on a monthly basis. The only hard and fast rule to adhere to is “change.” The company that is adaptable and flexible is the organization that will still be thriving 25 years from now.

Looking back over the last 27 years, FG’s success is directly tied to our ability to adapt to the changing landscape in marketing and advertising.

Why does your company call the Lehigh Valley home?

The obvious answer is because it is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. From an opportunistic standpoint, being centrally located within the Lehigh Valley has allowed First Generation to compete in the major markets at a price that our New York City, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. competitors cannot touch.

Our proximity to the major markets enables us to draw from a large pool of creative professionals, who for one reason or another, see the benefits of living in the beautiful Lehigh Valley — particularly after getting the “big city” experience out of their system.

What do you look for in hiring employees? And what is your training strategy/approach?

Experience and attitude are the two factors we evaluate when hiring new employees. Since we have our own instructional design (training) department, we are very insightful with our training approach.

Mentoring within departments and cross-training are important tools we utilize at FG. If our various departments have knowledge of each other’s roles, especially when developing a multifaceted campaign, higher quality finished products are achieved. When our video, creative and web departments are all on the same page, higher quality and cost savings result.

How do you define success for your company?

It’s simple — success for our clients is success for us. It’s what drives our business and our passion for creativity. Over the years, we have won many awards for the work we create for our clients, from Emmys, Tellys and CINEs to dozens of ADDYs. Our increasing sales year after year are a testament to our belief that First Generation’s success is defined by the success of our clients.
