David Wise, the owner of 1-800-GOT JUNK? and Boxaroo LLC in Reading has been named this year’s Eastern Pennsylvania Small Business Person of the Year by the Small Business Administration Philadelphia District Office.

Wise, who has been an on-campus client of the Jump Start Incubator at the Berks County Community Foundation through the Kutztown University Small Business Development Center, will be honored on May 28 in Reading and on June 5 at a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. He also received help with SBA loans, one of the qualifications for the award.

He was nominated for his work with 1-800-GOT-JUNK in the fall of last year. He started Boxaroo in February, and in April started a firm in Ohio called Nice Move.

The 1-800-GOT-JUNK company now employs 25 full-time and 10 part-time staff and had $2 million in revenue in 2012 – a growth of 130 percent since 2009.

Wise said he was surprised and excited by the honor – noting that there are more than 720,000 businesses in the Philadelphia SBA territory.

The Small Business Person of the Year Award will be presented at the Berks County Community Foundation in Reading at 1:30 p.m. on May 28.
