Schneider Electric of Berks County has been recognized as a platinum level award recipient in the American Heart Association’s list of Fit-Friendly Worksites.
It was among eight regional employers to receive the designation, which shows that the companies work to create a healthier workplace environment.
The other recipients were all gold-level award winners. They are:
• Air Products, Lehigh County.
• B. Braun Medical Inc., Northampton County.
• Pencor Services Inc., Carbon County.
• Pleasant Valley School District, Monroe County.
• Pocono Medical Center, Monroe County.
• Reading Health System, Berks County.
• St. Joseph Medical Center, Berks County.
Larissa Bedrick, a spokesperson for the American Heart Association of the Lehigh Valley, said companies can become involved with the Fit-Friendly Worksites program by filling out an online application and indicating what kind of initiatives the company has in place to promote wellness.
"Do you encourage employees to take walking breaks? Do you have healthy foods in your vending machines … those sorts of things," she said.
Bedrick said the local American Heart Association staff likes to reach out to Lehigh Valley companies to recruit them into the program.
"We let them know it helps with their advertising for employment. Employees are looking for companies with a better, healthier work environment," she said.
Fit-Friendly Worksites are chosen twice a year. The next deadline to apply for recognition is Nov. 1.
