A new CVS pharmacy store is going up at 315 W. Emaus Ave. in Allentown, according to Danielle Marcus, a spokeswoman for CVS.
She confirmed that the store is due to open in late summer and will be a 13,225-square-foot store that will be open 24 hours a day. The new location will include a full-service pharmacy with a double drive-through.
Speedwell Construction Inc. of Manheim is building the steel-framed single-story retail store at a cost of $2.6 million.
The company started moving dirt and doing site work in November and began building it in February, said Jeremy Zimmerman, project superintendent for Speedwell Construction. Interior work has begun and the company should start painting next week, said Zimmerman.
The turnover date for handing the keys to CVS is June 3, he said. The new CVS will replace the existing store across the street at West Emaus Avenue. A store manager at that CVS location confirmed that the store would close and move to the new spot in June.
The same property also could include a new drive-through Checkers (a fast food restaurant) but Zimmerman said this is a project still going through the city’s permitting process.
Zimmerman said Checkers contacted Speedwell Construction and the company will bid on the project, but it has not yet been awarded.
Speedwell is also doing road improvements around the site.
“We are replacing all of the sidewalks at each of the intersections,” said Zimmerman.
At Emaus Avenue and Fourth Street, the company is creating a turning lane for vehicles leaving Emaus Avenue, he said.
