Visitors to the Sands Casino Resort-Bethlehem this summer will have the option of adding a visit to a high-end spa to their itinerary.
Construction is slated to begin in April on a European Body Concepts spa at the popular destination.
“We are so pleased to launch European Body Concepts at the Sands Bethlehem this summer. Having a high-end spa at the property further extends our robust offering, adding yet another amenity for our valued guests,” said Julia Corwin, Pennsylvania Sands spokeswoman.
The spa will mirror a facility by the same name in East Texas (Lehigh County) owned by Irene Koufalis. There, she offers high-end products and specialized beauty and health treatments to her longtime clients.
“We offer the best of everything,” said Koufalis who opened the flagship spa in 1989. Koufalis, a native of Greece, also will operate the new spa.
The 5,000-square-foot facility will be built by Serfass Construction and designed by Howard Kulp Architects, both in Allentown.
The spa project is on a 90-day schedule, according to Matthias Fenstermacher, vice president of Serfass Construction. “It’s an aggressive schedule; we want to get them in as quickly as possible,” he said.
In total, there will be about 100 local contractors employed on the project; there will be about 15 workers onsite at any given time.
Because the spa will be built while the Shops at the Sands and the hotel are open, many logistical issues had to be considered, Fenstermacher said.
To keep noise to a minimum during construction, workers will work odd shifts such as 2-10 a.m. but they still will have to be cognizant of sleeping guests in the casino’s hotel.
