Butz project receives LEED certification, accolades

Alvin H. Butz Inc. has received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification for the 60,000-square-foot Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building on the Penn State Berks campus.

Green features included two 3,500-gallon rainwater harvesting tanks and the use of high-efficiency glass.

Butz worked with architects RMJM Hillier on the project. The university was awarded a Construction Owners Association of America Project Leadership Award for its role in the project. Butz and the university shared recognition from the Construction Management Association of America in its National Project of the Year Award for Higher Education Projects Under $20 million.

The building is currently the largest on the campus.
