Architizer is an online architects' network. Its 200 jury members, who decide category winners, come from a broad range of disciplines, including art, film, architecture, design, engineering, branding, and business.
"Spillman Farmer Architects is incredibly grateful to have a project recognized in the final round of the Architizer A+ Awards Program; it represents the pinnacle of accolades for the ArtsQuest Center," Spillman Farmer Design Principal Joseph Biondo said. "Having a jury comprised of a diverse group of the world's most influential critical thinkers makes this recognition particularly gratifying."
The Urban Transformation category honors architecture that revitalizes neglected areas and results in lively community spaces.
ArtsQuest Center is located on a brownfield that once housed Bethlehem Steel. The project represents a hybrid building for the arts. It is part performance space, exhibition venue, and art cinema.
The building is an anchor for the revitalization effort in the City of Bethlehem, transforming a once-abandoned historic industrial core into a dynamic, sustainable, and livable mixed-use community.
"Honoring our country's industrial past is a critical first step to healthy and vibrant revitalization. We are fortunate to work in a community comprised of visionary and steadfast leadership working together toward a common goal," Biondo said. "Embracing our history while introducing a diversity of arts, culture, and technology will always become a catalyst in transforming urban areas."
While the jurors have already selected a winner in each of the 50 categories, the top five projects in each category are also put to a popular vote. The winner of the A+ Popular Choice Award in each category will also be recognized, along with the winner selected by the juror team.
ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks is in the running for one of these A+ Popular Choice Awards.
Voting for the Architizer A+ Awards is open until March 19 and is limited to one vote per log-in platform. Voters can log in to Architizer.com through their Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Google to streamline the voting process.
Winners will be announced on the Architizer website on March 19.
