Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation (LVEDC) is hosting a forum in the Slate Belt on Tuesday, Jan. 22 to discuss economic development issues and strategies for the region.

"This is an opportunity for us to listen to the business owners and economic development leaders in the Slate Belt to ensure that we provide the assistance they need to be more competitive in economic growth and development," said Don Cunningham, LVEDC president and CEO.

The two-hour Slate Belt Business Forum will begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Bangor Event Theater, 42 N. First St., Bangor.

Forum discussions will focus on available sites, financing programs for business expansion and relocation, site location assistance, workforce development, infrastructure, and potential marketing strategies for the region.

Speakers will include Cunningham, Bangor Mayor John Brown, Anthony Biondi of Merchants Bank of Bangor and Mark Wilkinson of Voltaix, a manufacturer of germane gas that recently received the LVEDC's 2012 New Business Project of the Year award.

"(Voltaix) adds much-needed tax base in the Slate Belt. We want to see more and more success stories like Voltaix in the region," said Cunningham.

To register by Jan. 16, call Karen Higbee at (610) 266-2220 or send an email to: khigbee@lehighvalley.org.
