Members of the Rodale family have opened Rodale's General Store just down the street from the Rodale Inc. corporate headquarters in Emmaus.
The store, which is managed by Heidi Rodale, will – of course – feature books and magazines sold by Rodale Publishing, but more than that, it will serve as a coffee cafe and gift shop.
The shop is something she said she had envisioned for quite some time, but when the Hursh's Landscaping building became available she knew it was the right time and place to open such a shop.
"The location really inspired us," said Rodale. "It used to be so ugly and we restored it."
She said the adaptive reuse of such a property is at the core of her family business' values and creating the store there fit in with the Rodale style.
Mark Kintzel, who will serve as the store's manager of creative services said Rodale's General Store will sell pre-packaged organic cookies, muffins, fruit and other snacks. Coffee will be brewed on the premises as well. There will be an area for customers to sit and enjoy their purchases.
The store will also carry gift items and fresh floral arrangements.
Rodale's General Store is located at 1002 Pennsylvania Ave., Emmaus.
