The management of Allentown's Lehigh Valley IronPigs baseball club has been honored nationally.

In their first year of eligibility, the IronPigs captured the prestigious Bob Freitas Award, which recognizes long-term excellence in the operation of minor league baseball franchises. The judges focused on the categories of market commitment, operational practices, community involvement and business success.

Baseball America announced the recognition on Nov. 27.

The coveted award is given annually to one club among each level of affiliated Minor League Baseball.

Clubs must be in operation for at least five seasons to be considered.
