Serfass Construction Company of Allentown started the project at the beginning of November and should finish building it by next summer, said Vice President Kevin Serfass.
His company is doing site work and construction, which includes stormwater management, building foundations and paving, said Serfass. The mechanical, electrical and plumbing trades for Moravian's center include Broc Mechanical of South Whitehall for plumbing; JBM Mechanical Inc. of Nazareth for HVAC and Diefenderfer Electric Contractors of Allentown for electric.
The 40,000-square-foot building will include locker rooms, space for health classes, a weight room, a wood court and a rubber court, said Serfass.
Serfass said the project is unique since few buildings of this type are designed for LEED certification, with the goal of achieving the Silver designation from the U.S. Green Building Council. The project would include recycled building materials and specific energy efficient fixtures, said Serfass.
Voith and Mactavish Architects LLP of Philadelphia and Design Lab of Boston served as the architects for the project, he added.
