The ownership of the minor league hockey team planned for the arena being built as the anchor of the City Center development at Seventh and Hamilton streets in Allentown has announced the official name of the team.

The team will be called the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

The team is the minor league affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and was previously known as the Philadelphia Phantoms.

The Phantoms were established in 1996. They played their first 13 seasons in the Spectrum in Philadelphia, and currently reside in Glens Falls, N.Y., according to the team's website.

The team is expected to begin playing out of the Allentown arena, starting with the 2014 season.

Team merchandise adorned with the new official name and logo is already available for sale.
