There's a new retail store in Allentown for people with pest problems who don't want to bring in a professional exterminator.

Cisco Velez, who has operated All Affordable Pest Control for the past 24 years, has opened Do-it-Yourself Pest Control.

He said the problem for many do-it-yourselfers has been that they don't always have access to the same equipment and potent chemicals the professionals use to get rid of the bed bugs, roaches or spiders that may plague them.

At his store he sells professional-quality pest control items to the general public.

Velez said that while there are some products that require a license to use, many of the products and chemicals he and other exterminators use every day can be sold to the public.

He's also willing to help the do-it-yourselfers with his own professional advice. He keeps a rack of educational material at the front of his store so his customers can research infestation problems and solutions.

He said that he expects many of his customers will be homeowners looking to save money, but he has already received a great deal of interest from landlords and property owners who would rather do the work themselves, and so he expects to have a strong commercial interest in his offerings as well.

Do-it-Yourself Pest Control is located at 630 Hanover Ave. in Allentown.
